Yet we have sinned, acted wickedly, and done evil; we have rebelled and turned aside from your laws and commands.

We have all sinned so much, just like our fathers. “Guilty” is written over our lives.

I refuse to turn away from difficult truths, for you yourself have taught me to love your words.

I’ll never forget what you’ve taught me, Lord, but when I wander off and lose my way, come after me, for I am your beloved!

I will follow his commands and I’ll not sin by ceasing to follow him, no matter what.

Like wayward sheep, we have all wandered astray. Each of us has turned from God’s paths and chosen our own way; even so, Yahweh laid the guilt of our every sin upon him.

We have rebelled and even tried to deny Yahweh; we have forsaken our God. Our speech stirs up oppression and revolt, and our hearts conceive, then confess, lies.

These amazing things had never been heard of before; you did things never dreamed of! No one perceived your greatness. No eye has ever seen a God like you, who intervenes for those who wait and long for you!

Yahweh, we acknowledge our wickedness before you— we have sinned against you, just like our fathers did.

Our guilty sins cry out against us; in our rebellion, time and time again, we have sinned against you. Yahweh, do something to help us, for the sake of your honor.

We deserve to lie down in our shame and be covered by our disgrace. Ever since we were young, we and our ancestors have sinned against our God, Yahweh. We failed to really listen to your voice, Yahweh our God.”

All those ‘lovers’ you had have abandoned you; they could not care less. Yes, I struck you with cruel punishment because of your great guilt and countless sins. I struck you mercilessly like you were my enemy.

This disaster came to your people because of their evil deeds; they have worshiped foreign gods, which they have previously known nothing about nor have their ancestors. They have brought them offerings and provoked my anger.

“Yahweh is just to judge, for I have rebelled against his word. Listen, everyone, and see my sorrow; my maidens and young men have gone into captivity.

“Yahweh, can’t you see I’m in deep trouble? My gut is churning and my heart is burning— how rebellious I have been! The sword rules on the street; plague rules within the houses.

“We have sinned and rebelled, and you have not yet pardoned us.

Yet she has rebelled more wickedly against my ways and against my laws than the gentile nations that surround her. Indeed, she has deliberately rejected my commands and not kept my laws.”

Those who escape will remember me among the nations where they are exiles. They will remember how my heart was crushed by their promiscuous ways when they turned their hearts away from me and by their wandering eyes that lusted after idols. They will loathe themselves for the evil things they did and all their detestable practices.

All the people of Israel have ignored your voice; we have defied your instructions and gone astray. Now, the solemn curses confirmed by your promises of punishment in the law of your servant Moses have been poured out upon us because we sinned against you.

“And now, Lord our God, you delivered your people out of the land of Egypt with mighty power. You have won fame and gained renown for yourself even to this day. But we acknowledge our sin and wicked ways.

In spite of all that, Lord, our God, you are filled with compassion and overflow with forgiveness, even though we have openly rebelled against you.

So search your hearts every day, my brothers and sisters, and make sure that none of you has evil or unbelief hiding within you. For it will lead you astray, and make you unresponsive to the living God.
