Daniel 9:16

The Passion Translation

Lord, you have always demonstrated your faithfulness to Israel, so now please turn your fierce anger away from Jerusalem. It belongs to you and sits on the hill where sacrifice is made. All the other nations who live around us despise your city and your people because of the sins of our ancestors and because of our sins also.

Lord, you must hear my prayer, for you are faithful to your promises. Answer my cry, O righteous God!

I trust you, Lord, to be my hiding place. Don’t let me down. Don’t let my enemies bring me to shame. Come and rescue me, for you are the only God who always does what is right.

Everyone praise the Lord God of Israel, always and forever! For he is from eternity past and will remain for the eternity to come. That’s the way it will be forever. Faithful is our King! Amen!

Let your justice be my breakthrough. Bend low to my whispered cry and save me from all my enemies!

Now the nearby nations heap their scorn upon us, scoffing, mocking us incessantly.

So bring us back to loving you, God our Savior. Restore our hearts so that we’ll never again feel your anger rise against us.

They have relentlessly insulted and persecuted us, your anointed ones.

For this reason Yahweh’s anger burned against his people, and he struck them down with his holy hand! The mountains trembled, and dead bodies were littered like garbage left in the streets. Even with this, his anger has not turned away and still his hand is heavy upon them!

I will punish them with such a disaster that everyone on earth will tremble in horror when they hear about it. I will force the people of Judah to go to foreign countries, where they will be an object of scorn, cursing, and insult.

I will make them into a horrible sight to all the earth, a curse, a thing of horror, scorn, and derision to all the nations where I have driven them. I will afflict them with war, food shortages, and plague

From the day they built this city, these people have made me angry and furious. Therefore, I will destroy it

because of all the wickedness of the people of Israel and Judah. They have all provoked my anger, their kings, their officials, their priests, their prophets, the people of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

You have become guilty by the blood you have shed and defiled by your hand-made gods. Your time is up! Your day of reckoning is on the way. Therefore, I have made you an object of scorn and a laughingstock to all the nations.

“Moreover, I will reduce you to a heap of ruins, an object of scorn to the surrounding nations, in the eyes of all who pass by.

He will pitch his lavish royal tents between the sea and the beautiful mountain of the holy temple. Yet he will come to his end all alone, with no one to stand with him.”

While I was absorbed in prayer, confessing my sins and the sins of my people Israel and presenting my request before Yahweh, my God, on behalf of Jerusalem, his holy hill—

It is right and just for God to trouble your troublers

But if we freely admit our sins when his light uncovers them, he will be faithful to forgive us every time. God is just to forgive us our sins because of Christ, and he will continue to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
