The Passion Translation

At Daniel’s request, the king delegated the affairs of the province of Babylon to his friends Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Daniel remained in the king’s palace.

The triumphant joy of God’s lovers releases great glory. But when the wicked rise to power, everyone goes into hiding.

When the Babylonians captured Jerusalem, the king’s leading officials took their seats in the Middle Gate to form their military government: Nergal-Sharezer, Samgar-Nebo, Sar-Sechim a high dignitary of state, Nergal-Sharezer the king’s chief adviser, and all the other officials of the king of Babylon.

God imparted insight and skill in every aspect of literature and science to the four Hebrew men. Daniel also had the unique gift of interpreting every kind of supernatural vision and dream.

But the chief official of the palace gave them Babylonian names: Daniel he called Belteshazzar, Hananiah he called Shadrach, Mishael he called Meshach, and Azariah he called Abednego.

Daniel then went home and explained everything to his friends Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.

King Nebuchadnezzar had a golden statue made that was sixty cubits high and six cubits wide. He erected the statue on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon.

He also appointed three chief officials to watch over the work of these governors so that the king’s interests might not suffer, and Daniel was one of these three.
