Wail, O gate! Cry out, O city! Melt with fear, Philistia! For a cloud of smoke comes out of the north, and there is no straggler among them.

In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, I, Daniel, known as Belteshazzar, received a profound word—a true revelation, but I struggled to understand it. Finally, its interpretation was disclosed to me in a vision, and I began to understand the word.

And after he forms an alliance with him, he will act deceitfully and, despite his initial small following, he will grow ever stronger.

“He will stir up his might and courage, muster a large army, and wage war against the king of Egypt. However, the king of Egypt will fight back with an even greater army—a massive and powerful army—but he will be defeated because of secret plans devised against him.

Then the treacherous king of Syria will start back home with his great spoils. He will set his heart against the holy covenant, take action against it, and then return to his own land.

Roman ships will oppose him, and he will lose heart. He will retreat and take out his indignation against the holy covenant and show favor to those who forsake that holy covenant.

“Listen,” he said, “and I will tell you what will take place in the time of wrath, for the vision pertains to the appointed time of the end:

From one man, Adam, he made every man and woman and every race of humanity, and he spread us over all the earth. He sets the boundaries of people and nations, determining their appointed times in history.

For until the time appointed by the father, the child is under the domestic supervision of the guardians of the estate.
