Immediately six men advanced from the upper north gate, each one holding a deadly weapon. Also, I saw with them a man clothed in white linen, with a scribe’s case tied to his belt. They came and stood in front of the bronze altar.
They cover their idols with beaten, refined silver and gold, even fine gold. The hammer of a craftsman and the hands of a goldsmith craft their image, robing them in garments of violet and purple. They are nothing but the work of human hands.
When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw standing in front of him a man holding a drawn sword. Joshua approached him and said, “Are you on our side or on our enemies’?”
