The Passion Translation

Then suddenly, one who looked like a man touched my lips, and I was finally able to speak. So, I said to the one standing in front of me, “My lord, this vision has left me overcome, undone, and overwhelmed. I feel totally weak and helpless.

He touched my lips with it and said, “See? The burning coal from the altar has touched your lips. Your guilt is taken away; your sin is blotted out.”

Then Yahweh reached out with his hand and touched my mouth and said to me: “Now I have put my words in your mouth.

High on the platform over their heads, I saw something that looked like a beautiful throne made of sapphire. And high above on the throne was one who had the form of a man.

But whenever I want to speak through you, I will give you back the power of speech. And then you will say to them, ‘This is what Lord Yahweh says: If you have a heart to hear, then hear! If you refuse to listen, then so be it!’—for they are a tribe of rebels.”

Now the evening before the survivor arrived, the mighty hand of Yahweh had rested on me, and my speech was fully restored before he came to me in the morning—I could speak again.

I heard his answer, but it was like a riddle to me. So, I asked him, “Sir, how will all of this transpire?”

Upon hearing this, Daniel (known as Belteshazzar) was visibly shaken for a while and troubled in his thoughts. The king noticed this and said to him, “Belteshazzar, do not be alarmed by the dream and its meaning.” Belteshazzar answered, “My lord, if only the dream applied to those who hate you and its interpretation were for your enemies!

As for me, Daniel, I was terrified by these night visions, and my spirit was deeply disturbed by all that I saw.

That is all that I saw in my dream. I, Daniel, was so greatly terrified by my thoughts that my face turned pale, but I hid the vision in my heart.

While I, Daniel, was pondering the vision I had seen, suddenly there appeared before me one who looked like a man.

As the angel Gabriel came closer to where I was standing, I was so terrified that I fell facedown on the ground. Then he said to me, “Daniel, son of man, you need to understand that your vision refers to the time of the end.”

When he spoke with me, I lost consciousness and passed out. But he took hold of me and raised me to my feet.

I, Daniel, was dazed and lay sick for several days; then I got up and went back to serve the king. I was perplexed by the vision, for it seemed beyond understanding.

Gabriel, whom I had seen in a vision previously, came flying down from heaven. He touched me at the time of the evening sacrifice.

Instantly Zechariah could speak again. And his first words were praises to the Lord.

Then the words spilled out of his heart—“You are my Lord, and you are my God!”

“Neither,” he replied. “I have not come to take sides but to take charge. I am the Commander of Yahweh’s armies.” At once, Joshua threw himself facedown to the ground and worshiped, and he said to him, “I will do whatever you command, my Lord.”

And walking among the lampstands, I saw someone like a son of man, wearing a full-length robe with a golden sash over his chest.

Manoah pleaded with Yahweh, “O my Lord, please send the man of God back to us. Have him come to instruct us how to raise the son who is to be born.”

“Me?” Gideon replied. “But sir, if Yahweh is truly with us, why have all these troubles come to us? Where are all his miracle-wonders that our fathers told us about when they said, ‘Did not Yahweh deliver us out of Egypt?’ But now Yahweh has abandoned us and put us under the power of the Midianites.”

Gideon said to him, “But Lord, how could I ever rescue Israel? Of all the thousands in Manasseh, my clan is the weakest, and I’m the least qualified in my family.”
