He was the one who destroyed the seven nations inhabiting the land of Canaan and afterward gave the land to his people as their inheritance.

Then Joshua cast lots in Yahweh’s presence at Shiloh and assigned a section of the land to each of the remaining tribes of Israel.

See, I have assigned to your tribes all the land from the Jordan River in the east to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. I have given you the land of all the nations that we’ve already conquered as an inheritance, and also the land of those nations that we’ve yet to conquer.

‘Later, after you crossed the Jordan miraculously, you faced another impossibility—Jericho! The lords of Jericho, as well as the Amorites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hittites, Girgashites, Hivites, and Jebusites, fought with you, but I gave you victory over them all!

For three hundred years, Israel has been living here and occupying Heshbon, Aroer, and the towns around them, and all the cities on the banks of the Arnon River. Why have you waited until now to try to take them back?
