I will silence those who secretly want to slander my friends, and I will not tolerate the proud and arrogant.

They refuse to slander or insult others; they’ll never listen to gossip or rumors, nor would they ever harm a friend with their words.

The one who hides his hatred while pretending to be your friend is nothing but a liar. But the one who slanders you behind your back proves that he’s a fool, never to be trusted.

A reliable, trustworthy messenger refreshes the heart of his master, like a gentle snowfall at harvest time.

Beware of your neighbor and do not even trust your brother, for every brother is a cheater, and every friend is a slanderer.

“They may not marry a widow or a divorced woman but only an Israelite virgin. They may, however, marry a widow if she is the widow of a priest.

Afterward, the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to experience the ordeal of testing by the accuser.

Then Jesus shocked them with these words: “I have hand-picked you to be my twelve, knowing that one of you is the devil.”

Their sinful lives became full of every kind of evil, wicked schemes, greed, and cruelty. Their hearts overflowed with jealous cravings, and with conflict and strife, which drove them into hateful arguments and murder. They are deceitful liars full of hostility. They are gossips

My heart spills over with thanks to God for the way he continually empowers me, and to our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One, who found me trustworthy and who authorized me to be his partner in this ministry.

Yet an elder needs to be one who is without blame before others. He should be one whose heart is for his wife alone and not another woman. He should be recognized as one who is sensible, and well-behaved, and living a disciplined life. He should be a “spiritual shepherd” who has the gift of teaching, and is known for his hospitality.

Especially honor and respect employers who are believers and don’t despise them, but serve them even more, for they are fellow believers. They should be at peace with them as beloved members of God’s family. Be faithful to teach them these things as their sacred obligation.

They will become addicted to hateful and malicious slander. Slaves to their desires, they will be ferocious, belligerent haters of what is good and right.

So be alert to all these things and overcome every form of evil. Carry in your heart the passion of your calling as a church planter and evangelist, and fulfill your ministry calling.

Likewise with the female elders, lead them into lives free from gossip and drunkenness and to be teachers of beautiful things.

And remind them to never tear down anyone with their words or quarrel, but instead be considerate, humble, and courteous to everyone.

Be well balanced and always alert, because your enemy, the devil, roams around incessantly, like a roaring lion looking for its prey to devour.
