A fool lets it all hang out; a sage quietly mulls it over.


Don’t shoot off your mouth, or speak before you think. Don’t be too quick to tell God what you think he wants to hear. God’s in charge, not you—the less you speak, the better.


Knowledge flows like spring water from the wise; fools are leaky faucets, dripping nonsense.


“You have minds like a snake pit! How do you suppose what you say is worth anything when you are so foul-minded? It’s your heart, not the dictionary, that gives meaning to your words. A good person produces good deeds and words season after season. An evil person is a blight on the orchard. Words can be your salvation. Words can also be your damnation.”


Don’t let your mouth make a total sinner of you. When called to account, you won’t get by with “Sorry, I didn’t mean it.” Why risk provoking God to angry retaliation?


Observe the people who always talk before they think— even simpletons are better off than they are.


They make a lot of sense, these wise folks; whenever they speak, their reputation increases.


A commonsense person lives good sense; fools litter the country with silliness.


The more talk, the less truth; the wise measure their words.


The speech of a good person clears the air; the words of the wicked pollute it.
