A twinkle in the eye means joy in the heart, and good news makes you feel fit as a fiddle.

A sterling reputation is better than striking it rich; a gracious spirit is better than money in the bank.

Just as lotions and fragrance give sensual delight, a sweet friendship refreshes the soul.

Dead flies in perfume make it stink, And a little foolishness decomposes much wisdom.

Endings are better than beginnings. Sticking to it is better than standing out.

“So, God, if you won’t kill them, kill me! I’m better off dead!”

For instance, we know that when these bodies of ours are taken down like tents and folded away, they will be replaced by resurrection bodies in heaven—God-made, not handmade—and we’ll never have to relocate our “tents” again. Sometimes we can hardly wait to move—and so we cry out in frustration. Compared to what’s coming, living conditions around here seem like a stopover in an unfurnished shack, and we’re tired of it! We’ve been given a glimpse of the real thing, our true home, our resurrection bodies! The Spirit of God whets our appetite by giving us a taste of what’s ahead. He puts a little of heaven in our hearts so that we’ll never settle for less.

Not one of these people, even though their lives of faith were exemplary, got their hands on what was promised. God had a better plan for us: that their faith and our faith would come together to make one completed whole, their lives of faith not complete apart from ours.

I heard a voice out of Heaven, “Write this: Blessed are those who die in the Master from now on; how blessed to die that way!” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “and blessed rest from their hard, hard work. None of what they’ve done is wasted; God blesses them for it all in the end.”
