King Rehoboam talked it over with the elders who had advised his father when he was alive: “What’s your counsel? How do you suggest that I answer the people?”
Don’t leave your friends or your parents’ friends and run home to your family when things get rough; Better a nearby friend than a distant family.
Take good counsel and accept correction— that’s the way to live wisely and well.
Fools are headstrong and do what they like; wise people take advice.
Then Absalom spoke to Ahithophel, “Are you ready to give counsel? What do we do next?”
“Give me,” said Rehoboam, “three days to think it over; then come back.” So the people left.
