Uerely I saye vnto you: amonge them that are borne of wemen, arose not a greater then Iohn the Baptist. Not withstandinge he that is lesse: in the Kyngdome of heauen is gretter then he.
And when the messengers of Iohn were departed, he began to speake vnto the people concerninge Iohn. What went ye out into the wildernes for to se? a rede shaken wt the wind?
And as they departed, Iesus beganne to saye vnto the people concerning Iohn. What went ye out into the wyldernes to se? A rede that is shaken with the wynde?
For Iohn cam vnto you by the waye of ryghtewesnes, and ye beleued hym not: but publicans & harlottes beleued hym. And ye (whan ye had sene it) were not moued afterwarde wyth repentaunce, that ye myght haue beleued hym.
And the children of the kenite Moses father in lawe went vp out of the cytie of palme trees with the children of Iuda into the wyldernesse of Iuda, that lieth in the Southe of Arad, and they went and dwelt amonge the people.
And beholde, the Lorde hath kept me alyue (as he sayde) this fourtye and fyue yeares, euen sence the Lord spake this word vnto Moses, whyle the chyldren of Israell wanderyd in the wyldernesse. And now lo, I am this daye foure skore & fyue yere old:
