But now for a brief moment favor has been shown by the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant and to give us a secure hold[2] within his holy place, that our God may brighten our eyes and grant us a little reviving in our slavery.

The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.

And the firstborn of the poor will graze, and the needy lie down in safety; but I will kill your root with famine, and your remnant it will slay.

What will one answer the messengers of the nation? "The LORD has founded Zion, and in her the afflicted of his people find refuge."

The meek shall obtain fresh joy in the LORD, and the poor among mankind shall exult in the Holy One of Israel.

"Yet I will leave some of you alive. When you have among the nations some who escape the sword, and when you are scattered through the countries,

they shall shepherd the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod at its entrances; and he shall deliver us from the Assyrian when he comes into our land and treads within our border.

The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.

So it was annulled on that day, and the sheep traders, who were watching me, knew that it was the word of the LORD.

So I became the shepherd of the flock doomed to be slaughtered by the sheep traders. And I took two staffs, one I named Favor, the other I named Union. And I tended the sheep.

the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers[1] are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.

and in his name the Gentiles will hope."

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

And again Isaiah says, "The root of Jesse will come, even he who arises to rule the Gentiles; in him will the Gentiles hope."

Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him?

who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
