Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this that you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."

He feeds on ashes; a deluded heart has led him astray, and he cannot deliver himself or say, "Is there not a lie in my right hand?"

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?

The horror you inspire has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, you who live in the clefts of the rock,[2] who hold the height of the hill. Though you make your nest as high as the eagle's, I will bring you down from there, declares the LORD.

But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. Apart from the law, sin lies dead.

to put off your old self,[3] which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires,

But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called "today," that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless.
