He had been instructed in the way of the Lord. And being fervent in spirit,[3] he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John.

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.

The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.

Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe,

Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart,

And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.

Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him.

Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.

Whoever is slack in his work is a brother to him who destroys.

But he said, "You are idle, you are idle; that is why you say, 'Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD.'

Besides that, they learn to be idlers, going about from house to house, and not only idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying what they should not.

His watchmen are blind; they are all without knowledge; they are all silent dogs; they cannot bark, dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber.

But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first.

Masters, treat your slaves[1] justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.

For he who was called in the Lord as a slave is a freedman of the Lord. Likewise he who was free when called is a slave of Christ.

But his master answered him, 'You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sowed and gather where I scattered no seed?

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might,[2] for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.[2]

She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.
