Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?"

As with a deadly wound in my bones, my adversaries taunt me, while they say to me continually, "Where is your God?"

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.

My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me continually, "Where is your God?"

These things I remember, as I pour out my soul: how I would go with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God with glad shouts and songs of praise, a multitude keeping festival.

Mankind will say, "Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely there is a God who judges on earth."

The LORD has made himself known; he has executed judgment; the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands. Higgaion.[3] Selah

O LORD, God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, shine forth!

I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God, and you shall know that I am the LORD your God, who has brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

The Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring out the people of Israel from among them."

Oh that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains might quake at your presence --

"I will repay Babylon and all the inhabitants of Chaldea before your very eyes for all the evil that they have done in Zion, declares the LORD.

The violence done to me and to my kinsmen be upon Babylon," let the inhabitant of Zion say. "My blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea," let Jerusalem say.

"Let all their evildoing come before you, and deal with them as you have dealt with me because of all my transgressions; for my groans are many, and my heart is faint."

And I will vindicate the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, and which you have profaned among them. And the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Lord GOD, when through you I vindicate my holiness before their eyes.

Between the vestibule and the altar let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep and say, "Spare your people, O LORD, and make not your heritage a reproach, a byword among the nations.[1] Why should they say among the peoples, 'Where is their God?' "

Then my enemy will see, and shame will cover her who said to me, "Where is the LORD your God?" My eyes will look upon her; now she will be trampled down like the mire of the streets.

Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it[9] to the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord."

"Rejoice with him, O heavens; bow down to him, all gods,[9] for he avenges the blood of his children[10] and takes vengeance on his adversaries. He repays those who hate him[11] and cleanses[12] his people's land."[13]

Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, for God has given judgment for you against her!"
