Because of all my adversaries I have become a reproach, especially to my neighbors, and an object of dread to my acquaintances; those who see me in the street flee from me.

But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by mankind and despised by the people.

My friends and companions stand aloof from my plague, and my nearest kin stand far off.

They are brought to ruin, with their own tongues turned against them; all who see them will wag their heads.

You have caused my beloved and my friend to shun me; my companions have become darkness.[4]

For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, "The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me."

At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them!

Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.

Therefore let us go to him outside the camp and bear the reproach he endured.

If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory[2] and of God rests upon you.
