Our God comes; he does not keep silence;[1] before him is a devouring fire, around him a mighty tempest.

Sing to God, sing praises to his name; lift up a song to him who rides through the deserts; his name is the LORD; exult before him!

Fire goes before him and burns up his adversaries all around.

Now Mount Sinai was wrapped in smoke because the LORD had descended on it in fire. The smoke of it went up like the smoke of a kiln, and the whole mountain trembled greatly.

Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look at the earth beneath; for the heavens vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment, and they who dwell in it will die in like manner;[2] but my salvation will be forever, and my righteousness will never be dismayed.

"For behold, the LORD will come in fire, and his chariots like the whirlwind, to render his anger in fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.

The LORD roars from Zion, and utters his voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth quake. But the LORD is a refuge to his people, a stronghold to the people of Israel.

"Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

And when the sixth hour[5] had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.[6]

Jesus answered him, "What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand."

"There is none like God, O Jeshurun, who rides through the heavens to your help, through the skies in his majesty.

At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, "Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens."

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies[2] will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.[3]

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them.
