I cry to you, O LORD; I say, "You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living."

many are saying of my soul, there is no salvation for him in God. Selah[1]

O men,[1] how long shall my honor be turned into shame? How long will you love vain words and seek after lies? Selah

As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God!

As with a deadly wound in my bones, my adversaries taunt me, while they say to me continually, "Where is your God?"

God is our refuge and strength, a very present[2] help in trouble.

The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.

"Because you said, 'These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will take possession of them' -- although the LORD was there --

Now if you are ready when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, well and good.[3] But if you do not worship, you shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you out of my hands?"

so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.
