For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul, and the one greedy for gain curses[1] and renounces the LORD.

And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.'

Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit" --

Put to death therefore what is earthly in you:[2] sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Though they know God's decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.

They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips,

And he said to them, "Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."

"Woe to him who gets evil gain for his house, to set his nest on high, to be safe from the reach of harm!

But you have eyes and heart only for your dishonest gain, for shedding innocent blood, and for practicing oppression and violence."

Because of the iniquity of his unjust gain I was angry, I struck him; I hid my face and was angry, but he went on backsliding in the way of his own heart.

Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man? The steadfast love of God endures all the day.

For though, while he lives, he counts himself blessed, -- and though you get praise when you do well for yourself --

And Saul said, "May you be blessed by the LORD, for you have had compassion on me.

"The LORD saw it and spurned them, because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.

And I will destroy your high places and cut down your incense altars and cast your dead bodies upon the dead bodies of your idols, and my soul will abhor you.

As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.

And he said to his mother, "The 1,100 pieces of silver that were taken from you, about which you uttered a curse, and also spoke it in my ears, behold, the silver is with me; I took it." And his mother said, "Blessed be my son by the LORD."

and muster an army like the army that you have lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot. Then we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they." And he listened to their voice and did so.

In my vain life I have seen everything. There is a righteous man who perishes in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man who prolongs his life in his evildoing.
