And the king said to me, "Why is your face sad, seeing you are not sick? This is nothing but sadness of the heart." Then I was very much afraid.

Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.

A tranquil[6] heart gives life to the flesh, but envy[7] makes the bones rot.

All the days of the afflicted are evil, but the cheerful of heart has a continual feast.

A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

For our boast is this: the testimony of our conscience that we behaved in the world with simplicity[3] and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God, and supremely so toward you.

so you should rather turn to forgive and comfort him, or he may be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.

For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.
