My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

Why should a fool have money in his hand to buy wisdom when he has no sense?

When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.

Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD,

A gentle[1] tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.

He dies for lack of discipline, and because of his great folly he is led astray.

and you say, "How I hated discipline, and my heart despised reproof!

therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices.

I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food.

Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O LORD, God of hosts.

There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight,[1] not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you;[2] not for shameful gain, but eagerly;

And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.

" 'And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.

The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice.

The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil.

He who commits adultery lacks sense; he who does it destroys himself.

The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.

For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them;

that you may keep discretion, and your lips may guard knowledge.

The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the hearts of fools.[2]

The words of the wise are like goads, and like nails firmly fixed are the collected sayings; they are given by one Shepherd.

Therefore my people go into exile for lack of knowledge;[6] their honored men go hungry,[7] and their multitude is parched with thirst.
