For the Levites left their common lands and their holdings and came to Judah and Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons cast them out from serving as priests of the LORD,
"Command the people of Israel to give to the Levites some of the inheritance of their possession as cities for them to dwell in. And you shall give to the Levites pasturelands around the cities.
"And if a Levite comes from any of your towns out of all Israel, where he lives -- and he may come when he desires[3] -- to the place that the LORD will choose,
