Numbers 26:65

The English Standar Version

For the LORD had said of them, "They shall die in the wilderness." Not one of them was left, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

For the evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the LORD shall inherit the land.

And the people of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children.

And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness.

I, the LORD, have spoken. Surely this will I do to all this wicked congregation who are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall come to a full end, and there they shall die."

Of those men who went to spy out the land, only Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh remained alive.

"Our father died in the wilderness. He was not among the company of those who gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of Korah, but died for his own sin. And he had no sons.

These are the names of the men: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God's kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off.

except Caleb the son of Jephunneh. He shall see it, and to him and to his children I will give the land on which he has trodden, because he has wholly followed the LORD!'

And this is the reason why Joshua circumcised them: all the males of the people who came out of Egypt, all the men of war, had died in the wilderness on the way after they had come out of Egypt.

Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved[3] a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.
