Many years you bore with them and warned them by your Spirit through your prophets. Yet they would not give ear. Therefore you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

The king of Assyria carried the Israelites away to Assyria and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,

And the LORD said by his servants the prophets,

Yet he sent prophets among them to bring them back to the LORD. These testified against them, but they would not pay attention.

"And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? For we have forsaken your commandments,

You gave your good Spirit to instruct them and did not withhold your manna from their mouth and gave them water for their thirst.

"Nevertheless, they were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their back and killed your prophets, who had warned them in order to turn them back to you, and they committed great blasphemies.

And you warned them in order to turn them back to your law. Yet they acted presumptuously and did not obey your commandments, but sinned against your rules, which if a person does them, he shall live by them, and turned a stubborn shoulder and stiffened their neck and would not obey.

But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

For forty years I loathed that generation and said, "They are a people who go astray in their heart, and they have not known my ways."

For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little."

Who gave up Jacob to the looter, and Israel to the plunderers? Was it not the LORD, against whom we have sinned, in whose ways they would not walk, and whose law they would not obey?

"For my name's sake I defer my anger, for the sake of my praise I restrain it for you, that I may not cut you off.

But they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit; therefore he turned to be their enemy, and himself fought against them.

You have neither listened nor inclined your ears to hear, although the LORD persistently sent to you all his servants the prophets,

The LORD could no longer bear your evil deeds and the abominations that you committed. Therefore your land has become a desolation and a waste and a curse, without inhabitant, as it is this day.

Yet I persistently sent to you all my servants the prophets, saying, 'Oh, do not do this abomination that I hate!'

But they did not listen or incline their ear, to turn from their evil and make no offerings to other gods.

From the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt to this day, I have persistently sent all my servants the prophets to them, day after day.

The LORD has done what he purposed; he has carried out his word, which he commanded long ago; he has thrown down without pity; he has made the enemy rejoice over you and exalted the might of your foes.

We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

They made their hearts diamond-hard lest they should hear the law and the words that the LORD of hosts had sent by his Spirit through the former prophets. Therefore great anger came from the LORD of hosts.

"As I[2] called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear," says the LORD of hosts,

Now two men remained in the camp, one named Eldad, and the other named Medad, and the Spirit rested on them. They were among those registered, but they had not gone out to the tent, and so they prophesied in the camp.

And for about forty years he put up with[2] them in the wilderness.

And disagreeing among themselves, they departed after Paul had made one statement: "The Holy Spirit was right in saying to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet:

"You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you.

Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?

inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories.

For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you,[1] not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
