Then he said to them, "Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."

On the eighth day he sent the people away, and they blessed the king and went to their homes joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that the LORD had shown to David his servant and to Israel his people.

Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his place.

So the Levites calmed all the people, saying, "Be quiet, for this day is holy; do not be grieved."

And all the people went their way to eat and drink and to send portions and to make great rejoicing, because they had understood the words that were declared to them.

Therefore the Jews of the villages, who live in the rural towns, hold the fourteenth day of the month of Adar as a day for gladness and feasting, as a holiday, and as a day on which they send gifts of food to one another.

as the days on which the Jews got relief from their enemies, and as the month that had been turned for them from sorrow into gladness and from mourning into a holiday; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, days for sending gifts of food to one another and gifts to the poor.

Let Israel be glad in his Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King!

For you are the glory of their strength; by your favor our horn is exalted.

A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Give a portion to seven, or even to eight, for you know not what disaster may happen on earth.

There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment[2] in his toil. This also, I saw, is from the hand of God,

also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil -- this is God's gift to man.

Behold, what I have seen to be good and fitting is to eat and drink and find enjoyment[7] in all the toil with which one toils under the sun the few days of his life that God has given him, for this is his lot.

Go, eat your bread in joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart, for God has already approved what you do.

I came to my garden, my sister, my bride, I gathered my myrrh with my spice, I ate my honeycomb with my honey,

And now the LORD says, he who formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob back to him; and that Israel might be gathered to him -- for I am honored in the eyes of the LORD, and my God has become my strength --

I will greatly rejoice in the LORD; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

"Be glad, O children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God, for he has given the early rain for your vindication; he has poured down for you abundant rain, the early and the latter rain, as before.

And every pot in Jerusalem and Judah shall be holy to the LORD of hosts, so that all who sacrifice may come and take of them and boil the meat of the sacrifice in them. And there shall no longer be a trader[7] in the house of the LORD of hosts on that day.

But give as alms those things that are within, and behold, everything is clean for you.

for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part.

though I myself have reason for confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more:

and those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them and make merry and exchange presents, because these two prophets had been a torment to those who dwell on the earth.

Ask your young men, and they will tell you. Therefore let my young men find favor in your eyes, for we come on a feast day. Please give whatever you have at hand to your servants and to your son David.' "
