So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, "Put away the foreign gods that are among you and purify yourselves and change your garments.

So the priests and the Levites consecrated themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel.

But the priests were too few and could not flay all the burnt offerings, so until other priests had consecrated themselves, their brothers the Levites helped them, until the work was finished -- for the Levites were more upright in heart than the priests in consecrating themselves.

And he said to the people, "Be ready for the third day; do not go near a woman."

For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.

Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins just as he does for those of the people.
