And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, "Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you." And he said to him, "Go back again, for what have I done to you?"

Another of the disciples said to him, "Lord, let me first go and bury my father."

As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, "Follow me." And he rose and followed him.

The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, "Follow me."

(This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, "Follow me."

Jesus said to him, "If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!"

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins

even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ -- by grace you have been saved --

for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."

And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,

but she who is self-indulgent is dead even while she lives.
