And when Jesus entered Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever.

He said, "Yes." And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tax? From their sons or from others?"

He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him.

And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head."

Do we not have the right to take along a believing wife,[1] as do the other apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas?

Therefore an overseer[1] must be above reproach, the husband of one wife,[2] sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.
