You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

I walk in the way of righteousness, in the paths of justice,

And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it," when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.

And a highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it. It shall belong to those who walk on the way; even if they are fools, they shall not go astray.[1]

And it shall be said, "Build up, build up, prepare the way, remove every obstruction from my people's way."

Thus says the LORD: "Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, 'We will not walk in it.'

So the last will be first, and the first last."

For many are called, but few are chosen."

"Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy[1] that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.

"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

And he called to him the crowd with his disciples and said to them, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

"Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."

strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.

Do not be conformed to this world,[3] but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.[4]

Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone,
