But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.
Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.
And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."[2] And they cast lots to divide his garments.
When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.
And falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
He answered, "You shall not strike them down. Would you strike down those whom you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow? Set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink and go to their master."
if I have repaid my friend[2] with evil or plundered my enemy without cause,
He said to David, "You are more righteous than I, for you have repaid me good, whereas I have repaid you evil.
Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.
But Paul cried with a loud voice, "Do not harm yourself, for we are all here."
