When Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answered them, "Why do you question in your hearts?

Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner."

They answered him, "We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, 'You will become free'?"

I know that you are offspring of Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you.

Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do you make yourself out to be?"

"Brothers, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to us has been sent the message of this salvation.

Simeon has related how God first visited the Gentiles, to take from them a people for his name.

What then shall we say was gained by[1] Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh?
