"I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

And he went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

This is he of whom I said, 'After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.'

for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with[2] the Holy Spirit not many days from now."

And Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus."

And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?"[5]

And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.

For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body -- Jews or Greeks, slaves[4] or free -- and all were made to drink of one Spirit.

To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,

Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."
