Now the chief priests and the whole Council[8] were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death,
But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother[2] will be liable to judgment; whoever insults[3] his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, 'You fool!' will be liable to the hell[4] of fire.
A man who bears false witness against his neighbor is like a war club, or a sword, or a sharp arrow.
Give me not up to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence.
The high priest then questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching.
Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them; they know what I said."
