"Six days you shall do your work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; that your ox and your donkey may have rest, and the son of your servant woman, and the alien, may be refreshed.

Six days work shall be done, but on the seventh day you shall have a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it shall be put to death.

"If you turn back your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure[3] on my holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight and the holy day of the LORD honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, or seeking your own pleasure,[4] or talking idly;[5]

And a man was there with a withered hand. And they asked him, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?" -- so that they might accuse him.

He said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, and those who were with him:

And the Pharisees were saying to him, "Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?"

And Jesus responded to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?"

Then they returned and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

But some of the Pharisees said, "Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?"
