Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues,

"But be on your guard. For they will deliver you over to councils, and you will be beaten in synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them.

Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and persecute from town to town,

And I punished them often in all the synagogues and tried to make them blaspheme, and in raging fury against them I persecuted them even to foreign cities.

They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.

And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say,

But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother[2] will be liable to judgment; whoever insults[3] his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, 'You fool!' will be liable to the hell[4] of fire.

And I said, 'Lord, they themselves know that in one synagogue after another I imprisoned and beat those who believed in you.

Put no trust in a neighbor; have no confidence in a friend; guard the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your arms;[1]

Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.

Beware of him yourself, for he strongly opposed our message.

Look out for the dogs, look out for the evildoers, look out for those who mutilate the flesh.

So the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered the Council and said, "What are we to do? For this man performs many signs.

And brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death.

Now the chief priests and the whole Council[8] were seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death,
