And he called the name of the place Massah[1] and Meribah,[2] because of the quarreling of the people of Israel, and because they tested the LORD by saying, "Is the LORD among us or not?"
But Peter said to her, "How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out."
And the scribes of[1] the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, "Why does he eat[2] with tax collectors and sinners?"
And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, "By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?"
Therefore the people quarreled with Moses and said, "Give us water to drink." And Moses said to them, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the LORD?"
