While he was still speaking, there came from the ruler's house some who said, "Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?"

But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, "Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me.

He said, "Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, 'The Teacher says, My time is at hand. I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.' "

While he was saying these things to them, behold, a ruler came in and knelt before him, saying, "My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live."

And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

Then came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing him, he fell at his feet

While he was still speaking, someone from the ruler's house came and said, "Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more."

Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life.[4] Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,

When she had said this, she went and called her sister Mary, saying in private, "The Teacher is here and is calling for you."

Now when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet, saying to him, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died."

Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, "Lord, by this time there will be an odor, for he has been dead four days."

"Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.
