On a Sabbath,[1] while he was going through the grainfields, his disciples plucked and ate some heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands.

Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. On the first day you shall remove leaven out of your houses, for if anyone eats what is leavened, from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel.

"You shall count seven full weeks from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering.

On the first day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall not do any ordinary work.

And no one after drinking old wine desires new, for he says, 'The old is good.' "[4]

On another Sabbath, he entered the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was withered.

"You shall count seven weeks. Begin to count the seven weeks from the time the sickle is first put to the standing grain.

If you go into your neighbor's standing grain, you may pluck the ears with your hand, but you shall not put a sickle to your neighbor's standing grain.
