About three months later Judah was told, "Tamar your daughter-in-law has been immoral.[3] Moreover, she is pregnant by immorality."[4] And Judah said, "Bring her out, and let her be burned."

And he who is taken with the devoted things shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he has done an outrageous thing in Israel.' "

And Joshua said, "Why did you bring trouble on us? The LORD brings trouble on you today." And all Israel stoned him with stones. They burned them with fire and stoned them with stones.

Thus the sin of the young men was very great in the sight of the LORD, for the men treated the offering of the LORD with contempt.

And this that shall come upon your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, shall be the sign to you: both of them shall die on the same day.
