On the third day Joseph said to them, "Do this and you will live, for I fear God:

The former governors who were before me laid heavy burdens on the people and took from them for their daily ration[2] forty shekels[3] of silver. Even their servants lorded it over the people. But I did not do so, because of the fear of God.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!

"You shall do no injustice in court. You shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great, but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor.

"You shall stand up before the gray head and honor the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God: I am the LORD.

You shall not wrong one another, but you shall fear your God, for I am the LORD your God.

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.

Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.

Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God,

" 'Cursed be anyone who misleads a blind man on the road.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.'

And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one's deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile,

Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.

But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, so that they might eat food sacrificed to idols and practice sexual immorality.
