It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ill.

And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,[1] as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head.

And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep."

calling two of his disciples to him, sent them to the Lord, saying, "Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?"

Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

So the sisters sent to him, saying, "Lord, he whom you love is ill."

Now when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet, saying to him, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died."

Mary therefore took a pound[1] of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am.

If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.
