There is no gloom or deep darkness where evildoers may hide themselves.

He says in his heart, "God has forgotten, he has hidden his face, he will never see it."

If I say, "Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,"

Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?

There they are, bellowing with their mouths with swords in their lips -- for "Who," they think,[2] "will hear us?"

They hold fast to their evil purpose; they talk of laying snares secretly, thinking, who can see them?

And they say, "How can God know? Is there knowledge in the Most High?"

Ah, you who hide deep from the LORD your counsel, whose deeds are in the dark, and who say, "Who sees us? Who knows us?"

Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the LORD. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the LORD.

Then he said to me, "Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each in his room of pictures? For they say, 'The LORD does not see us, the LORD has forsaken the land.' "

Then he said to me, "The guilt of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great. The land is full of blood, and the city full of injustice. For they say, 'The LORD has forsaken the land, and the LORD does not see.'

"If they dig into Sheol, from there shall my hand take them; if they climb up to heaven, from there I will bring them down.

If they hide themselves on the top of Carmel, from there I will search them out and take them; and if they hide from my sight at the bottom of the sea, there I will command the serpent, and it shall bite them.

At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are complacent,[4] those who say in their hearts, 'The LORD will not do good, nor will he do ill.'
