Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

From the sole of the foot even to the head, there is no soundness in it, but bruises and sores and raw wounds; they are not pressed out or bound up or softened with oil.

But the wicked are like the tossing sea; for it cannot be quiet, and its waters toss up mire and dirt.

Their webs will not serve as clothing; men will not cover themselves with what they make. Their works are works of iniquity, and deeds of violence are in their hands.

For whenever I speak, I cry out, I shout, "Violence and destruction!" For the word of the LORD has become for me a reproach and derision all day long.

"For thus says the LORD: Your hurt is incurable, and your wound is grievous.

There is none to uphold your cause, no medicine for your wound, no healing for you.

Why do you cry out over your hurt? Your pain is incurable. Because your guilt is great, because your sins are flagrant, I have done these things to you.

This city has aroused my anger and wrath, from the day it was built to this day, so that I will remove it from my sight

Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then has the health of the daughter of my people not been restored?

while they see for you false visions, while they divine lies for you -- to place you on the necks of the profane wicked, whose day has come, the time of their final punishment.

For the blood she has shed is in her midst; she put it on the bare rock; she did not pour it out on the ground to cover it with dust.

"Thus says the Lord GOD: Enough, O princes of Israel! Put away violence and oppression, and execute justice and righteousness. Cease your evictions of my people, declares the Lord GOD.

Violence has grown up into a rod of wickedness. None of them shall remain, nor their abundance, nor their wealth; neither shall there be preeminence among them.[4]

"Forge a chain![8] For the land is full of bloody crimes and the city is full of violence.

Woe to her who is rebellious and defiled, the oppressing city!
