For thus says the LORD of hosts: "Cut down her trees; cast up a siege mound against Jerusalem. This is the city that must be punished; there is nothing but oppression within her.

"Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city or shoot an arrow there or come before it with a shield or cast up a siege mound against it.

For whenever I speak, I cry out, I shout, "Violence and destruction!" For the word of the LORD has become for me a reproach and derision all day long.

But you have eyes and heart only for your dishonest gain, for shedding innocent blood, and for practicing oppression and violence."

Behold, the siege mounds have come up to the city to take it, and because of sword and famine and pestilence the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it. What you spoke has come to pass, and behold, you see it.

This city has aroused my anger and wrath, from the day it was built to this day, so that I will remove it from my sight

For thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city and the houses of the kings of Judah that were torn down to make a defense against the siege mounds and against the sword:

In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem and besieged it.

Shall I not punish them for these things? declares the LORD, and shall I not avenge myself on a nation such as this?"

And put siegeworks against it, and build a siege wall against it, and cast up a mound against it. Set camps also against it, and plant battering rams against it all around.

"Thus says the Lord GOD: This is Jerusalem. I have set her in the center of the nations, with countries all around her.

Then the king of the north shall come and throw up siegeworks and take a well-fortified city. And the forces of the south shall not stand, or even his best troops, for there shall be no strength to stand.

Woe to her who is rebellious and defiled, the oppressing city!

For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side
