The warriors of Babylon have ceased fighting; they remain in their strongholds; their strength has failed; they have become women; her dwellings are on fire; her bars are broken.

I will break the gate-bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitants from the Valley of Aven,[4] and him who holds the scepter from Beth-eden; and the people of Syria shall go into exile to Kir," says the LORD.

Behold, your troops are women in your midst. The gates of your land are wide open to your enemies; fire has devoured your bars.

They will stand far off, in fear of her torment, and say, "Alas! Alas! You great city, you mighty city, Babylon! For in a single hour your judgment has come."
