"Edom shall become a horror. Everyone who passes by it will be horrified and will hiss because of all its disasters.

And this house will become a heap of ruins.[1] Everyone passing by it will be astonished and will hiss, and they will say, 'Why has the LORD done thus to this land and to this house?'

making their land a horror, a thing to be hissed at forever. Everyone who passes by it is horrified and shakes his head.

For I have sworn by myself, declares the LORD, that Bozrah shall become a horror, a taunt, a waste, and a curse, and all her cities shall be perpetual wastes."

Because of the wrath of the LORD she shall not be inhabited but shall be an utter desolation; everyone who passes by Babylon shall be appalled, and hiss because of all her wounds.

and Babylon shall become a heap of ruins, the haunt of jackals, a horror and a hissing, without inhabitant.

As you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so I will deal with you; you shall be desolate, Mount Seir, and all Edom, all of it. Then they will know that I am the LORD.

and say to it, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against you, Mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand against you, and I will make you a desolation and a waste.

I will make Mount Seir a waste and a desolation, and I will cut off from it all who come and go.

For you have kept the statutes of Omri,[6] and all the works of the house of Ahab; and you have walked in their counsels, that I may make you a desolation, and your[7] inhabitants a hissing; so you shall bear the scorn of my people."

This is the exultant city that lived securely, that said in her heart, "I am, and there is no one else." What a desolation she has become, a lair for wild beasts! Everyone who passes by her hisses and shakes his fist.

And the next generation, your children who rise up after you, and the foreigner who comes from a far land, will say, when they see the afflictions of that land and the sicknesses with which the LORD has made it sick --
