"As for the offerings that you offered in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, you and your fathers, your kings and your officials, and the people of the land, did not the LORD remember them? Did it not come into his mind?

because of all the evil of the children of Israel and the children of Judah that they did to provoke me to anger -- their kings and their officials, their priests and their prophets, the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

But we will do everything that we have vowed, make offerings to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her, as we did, both we and our fathers, our kings and our officials, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food, and prospered, and saw no disaster.

Then Jeremiah said to all the people, men and women, all the people who had given him this answer:

Have you forgotten the evil of your fathers, the evil of the kings of Judah, the evil of their[1] wives, your own evil, and the evil of your wives, which they committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

you built yourself a vaulted chamber and made yourself a lofty place in every square.

But they do not consider that I remember all their evil. Now their deeds surround them; they are before my face.

The LORD has sworn by the pride of Jacob: "Surely I will never forget any of their deeds.

"The LORD saw it and spurned them, because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.

" 'Is not this laid up in store with me, sealed up in my treasuries?

The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God remembered Babylon the great, to make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of his wrath.

for her sins are heaped high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.

Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction[1] all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.' "
