So Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces and all the people did not obey the voice of the LORD, to remain in the land of Judah.

Then all the people, both small and great, and the captains of the forces arose and went to Egypt, for they were afraid of the Chaldeans.

But as he was speaking, the king said to him, "Have we made you a royal counselor? Stop! Why should you be struck down?" So the prophet stopped, but said, "I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel."

Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.[1]

But I say that wisdom is better than might, though the poor man's wisdom is despised and his words are not heard.

Then Johanan the son of Kareah and all the leaders of the forces with him took from Mizpah all the rest of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, after he had struck down Gedaliah the son of Ahikam -- soldiers, women, children, and eunuchs, whom Johanan brought back from Gibeon.

And I have this day declared it to you, but you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God in anything that he sent me to tell you.

Then he summoned Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces who were with him, and all the people from the least to the greatest,

But they did not listen or incline their ear, to turn from their evil and make no offerings to other gods.
