Jeremiah 31:9

With weeping they shall come, and with pleas for mercy I will lead them back, I will make them walk by brooks of water, in a straight path in which they shall not stumble, for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.

Therefore David blessed the LORD in the presence of all the assembly. And David said: "Blessed are you, O LORD, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever.

He led them by a straight way till they reached a city to dwell in.

He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.[1]

And I will make him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.

Then you shall say to Pharaoh, 'Thus says the LORD, Israel is my firstborn son,

And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them.

Thus says the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and the one who formed him: "Ask me of things to come; will you command me concerning my children and the work of my hands?[2]

And it shall be said, "Build up, build up, prepare the way, remove every obstruction from my people's way."

who led them through the depths? Like a horse in the desert, they did not stumble.

For you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us, and Israel does not acknowledge us; you, O LORD, are our Father, our Redeemer from of old is your name.

But now, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.

" 'I said How I would set you among my sons, and give you a pleasant land, a heritage most beautiful of all nations. And I thought you would call me, My Father, and would not turn from following me.

Have you not just now called to me, 'My father, you are the friend of my youth --

Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he my darling child? For as often as I speak against him, I do remember him still. Therefore my heart[2] yearns for him; I will surely have mercy on him, declares the LORD.

"In those days and in that time, declares the LORD, the people of Israel and the people of Judah shall come together, weeping as they come, and they shall seek the LORD their God.

He strove with the angel and prevailed; he wept and sought his favor. He met God[1] at Bethel, and there God spoke with us --

Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the LORD their God, and David their king, and they shall come in fear to the LORD and to his goodness in the latter days.

"And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn.

Have we not all one Father? Has not one God created us? Why then are we faithless to one another, profaning the covenant of our fathers?

"On the west side shall be the standard of the camp of Ephraim by their companies, the chief of the people of Ephraim being Elishama the son of Ammihud,

For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he said, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare[1] the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.' "

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Pray then like this: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.[1]

"Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. "Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty."

"You are the sons of the LORD your God. You shall not cut yourselves or make any baldness on your foreheads for the dead.

Do you thus repay the LORD, you foolish and senseless people? Is not he your father, who created you, who made you and established you?

and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed.

and to the assembly[1] of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,

In the days of his flesh, Jesus[1] offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.

For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."
